Anxiety Abuse

Is my social anxiety as an adult due to the emotional and physical abuse from my father as a child ?
I grew up in a household with a critical, perfectionist father. He was controlling and physically abusive. As an adult, I think this may contribute to my social anxiety…I’m always fearful of someone picking apart the way I look, act, talk. I hate social sittings, I sweat terribly under my arms and I am terrified of being around men (I’m 21 and never been in a relationship). Sometimes, I cry because it feels like everyone is talking about me or finding something wrong with me. Yes, I have talked to many therapist. What do you think? Why is this so hard to overcome? Any Advice?
It is about 99.3/4 possible that this is due to the abuse you received when you were a child.
However, what happened to you in the past, should stay in the past. I received the same treatment when I was a child and I had to make my mind up, right there and then, that I was not going to let this man ruin MY life.
You have choices, everybody does. You MUST choose to start feeling better about yourself. You are special, everyone is special, but the children that have gone through abuse can be stronger, in the long run, because they can learn a lot from what they have gone through.
I chose to be a positive person.
I chose to be better than “him”
I chose not to be fearful and terrified at life.
etc. etc . etc.
You get the picture. You have a choice to make. To feel this way for the rest of your life, and be a very unhappy person, or pull yourself out of that hole and become a strong, happy person, who has something to offer the world in the future. Many, many children have gone through, and are going through now, what you have lived. You can let it ruin the rest of your life or you can change your thinking and be stronger for it.
You are 21 Kiki, and from the picture you chose, you are probably very beautiful, because of your ethnic background.
You could become a therapist for abused children. You could become a teacher, you could become……………….
There are endless possibilities.
Don’t look for the things that are wrong with you (everybody has something that is wrong with them, everybody) look for the things that are good about you. I bet you will find many.
Write down what your dreams are and if you havn’t got any right now, find one and work on going in that direction.
My life turned out to wonderful, even thought I went through that as a child, and then married an abusive man. I ran out of that relationship, with five young children and never looked back. See what I did? I made decisions for my better.
You can do the same thing. If you want to keep in touch e-mail me through Answers.
Have faith in yourself and your life can become wonderful, like mine became. Grandmother of 12, mother of 6 adult children.
