Alcoholism & anxiety attacks?
My brother is a very heavy drinker (vodka) and seems to suffer from depression. Recently he has been having panic or anxiety attacks. When these attacks occur, can’t catch is breath, his heart rate is very high, and his hands clench. He has been to the doctor, but hasn’t been diagnosed with a specific problem as of yet. I’m wondering if his drinking could be a cause of these symptoms. Any help would be appreciated.
It could be causing it, or making them worse. There is a physical element to alcohol dependence and that may be a factor as well. If he is not being honest with his doctor about his alcohol use, it could be have a very negative effect on any medications he might be put on. Some are extremely dangerous when mixed with alcohol. He should discuss this with his doctor.
