Often, finding an activity that requires you to focus can help calm your nerves. Things like doing a crossword puzzle, knitting or other things that require attention. Also, accepting that you are feeling anxious and looking at the route cause (i.e. sense of no control over your situation, etc) Naming the cause and even telling someone else how your feeling is a way to take back control and feel more empowered. This can sometimes lessen the anxiety. Progressive muscle relaxation may also help. Starting from your toes and working your way up your body, consciusly focus on relaxing each muscle. Notice how the muscle feels when it’s contracted and how it feels when it’s relaxed. Practice this every day, even when not anxious and it becomes easier. Hope this helps
