anxiety before period- medicine?

anyone experience anxiety before your period? Well…. i usually do for a good three to four days before my period. But now I am on the mirena IUD and sometimes you loose your period. I have been on it almost four years and NOW I have gone 7 weeks without a period. I alled my doc and she is sure that i will basically now not get a period but I am experiencing MASSIVE anxiety. I mean… I am basically PANIC central I am super stressed and super bitchy- it is like the never ending PMS. I think i need to be on some anxiety medication or something.

I read through the Prescribing Information on Mirena’s website, and it does not list anxiety as a side effect of Mirena.

However, I did find a website where users of the Mirena IUD complained that while using Mirena, it was like constant PMS for them. So if anxiety is part of your PMS symptoms, I suppose it’s possible that Mirena is causing you to experience more of that symptom.

You could choose to find an alternative form of birth control. I have switched forms of birth control because of the side effects. I was using the Depo-Provera, and it was making me act very angry and irritated all the time. I was fine with that type of birth control, because I couldn’t remember to take the birth control pill and I liked the idea of being able to get a shot that lasted three months. I didn’t think my hormones were out of whack at first. I truly thought everyone turned into a moron that wanted me to yell at them. My desire for sex completely disappeared, my desire to even “go along” with having sex completely disappeared, and if my husband even touched me, I would become very angry and irritated. My husband BEGGED me to switch birth control methods. He promised to remind me to take the birth control pill, if I would just please stop using the Depo-Provera. So I finally switched back to the birth control pill. After I stopped taking Depo-Provera, and as it wore off, I experienced a world of difference – I stopped feeling angry (hooray!), our sex life returned (we have sex almost everyday), and everything started feeling normal again (some people are still stupid, but I don’t mind ignoring it). I was truly impressed by how strong of an effect hormones can have on your body. It does not surprise me at all anymore when I read about other people’s experiencing mood problems associated with using artificial hormones. An imbalance of hormones can ruin your life.

Anyway, if you are otherwise satisfied with the Mirena IUD and don’t want to switch, you could look into getting anti-anxiety medicine. If you do get anti-anxiety medicine, remember that you could find yourself dealing with the side effects of the anti-anxiety medicine. On the other hand, maybe anti-anxiety medicine would be a good thing regardless of if it’s constant or only on a monthly basis, because monthly is certainly frequent enough to have a negative impact on your life.
