Anxiety Blood Pressure Readings

28 June 2010 No Comment

Had high blood pressure at the hospital tonight? Could I just have been a little worked up?

Had some chest pains tonight and went to the ER. Was not sure if it was my heart or my anxiety problem that occurs pretty frequent. It turned out to be chest pains from brochitis. It was inflamed. While there they took 2 blood pressure readings, one was a little high and one was like 143/103 which I know is quite high. I was REALLY worked up and REALLY nervous about what was wrong with me tonight. Could that be why my BP was up? I am going to the doctor tommorrow but I am kind of worried tonight. I am hoping it was “white coat syndrome”. Does this happen to anyone else?
They did Xrays and an EKG so they said my heart was fine. Just wanted me to check at my doc about the BP. I am just concerned since I am overweight and pretty inactive.

Sounds like your bp was elevated due to pain and stress. That will certainly do it. Take regular low dose analgesia and that will lower your BP and make you more comfortable too. Also, drink lots of water until your wee is clear, this way you know you are hydrated enough. Make sure you go to your appt tomorrow too and get a check up..BP, Temperature and so forth, you may need an antibiotic if it is bacterial infection otherwise, just have to ride the virus until it has taken its course.
They would surely have kept you in on a m onitor if it was a serious heart problem..so relax :)
