Sarah asked:
I’m 14, and I’ve been studying GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder).
I fit and have fit many of the symptoms most of my life, such as worrying constantly about small problems and letting them plague my mind. I never feel completely happy, I’m always worried about something. I try to stop worrying, but I end up doing it anyway. It stresses me out alot and I feel really hopeless about it. I also at a few points have had small panic attacks, a really sudden feeling of horror like something awful just happened, when nothing bad happened at all. I can’t name a specific time when these things started to bother me or when they bother me currently, it’s really random. I also have a problem with almost passing out suddenly. I’ll stand and things will just fade out.
I know many teens think they have mental problems or.. but that’s why I’ve avoided bringing this up to my parents or anyone.
My dad suffers from an anxiety disorder that I’m not sure of, but I think it might be GAD or Panic Disorder

I used to have that in my teen years, I guess its just a phase in life where everything comes to be stressful and stuff, but i passed it, hope you do too. good luck = )
If you are close with your dad, he could be a very helpful resource. He can recommend a shrink for you, help you set up the appointments, and — if you’re lucky — pay for them.
Whether this works or not, please do seek treatment. Don’t wait 10 years like I did.
Find a doc, minister, or school counselor that you feel comfortable talking to and tell them all this. If you do in fact have a mental illness there is meds and/or talk therapy. It would be a blessing to have a fix for this in your teens as opposed to an adult!
You should mention it to your dad. It may be passed down to you. Both of you can seek help together.
u might have wat ur dad has…who knows but every body worries about lil things like this and that
If your dad has an anxiety disorder, it’s very likely that you have it too. It is hereditary. The first thing my doc asked me on my first visit was “who in your family has a panic disorder?” She explained that researchers have discovered that this an hereditary thing. The almost passing out feeling definitely sounds like panic attack to me. That’s the way I always felt when they hit me. Good luck.
There is a very simple solution to panic attacks. Read this online article in the link below. I had panic attacks for years and then I found out that the problem is not with your mind, but with what you are putting in your mouth, and not putting in your mouth.
I accidentally discovered how to stop them in a matter of 30 seconds or less. The link below is an article I wrote for our church website. This article has nothing to do with religion.
Talk to you father about your concerns. He should be able to help you because he has been though it and knows exactly what it is all about. He could even get you into the Dr. . I worry about the passing out and light handedness. This could mean that your not breathing when you are stressed out, or are dehydrated or something.
Good luck to you.
I had the same thing and now I am so much better. I let it get out of control, until I had a very severe panic attack. PLEASE don’t let it get to this… it was awful. I wasn’t fully better until I got on some meds… apparently, its a chemical imbalance that needs to be restored. I was a new person once I got on paxil-I got my life back!! I’ve learned not to worry so much as well. I would suggest talking to a doctor about it, they understand and will tell you if your symptoms are enough to be treated with meds. You will get a lot better, trust me!!
