Anxiety disorder?

Sarah asked:

I’m 14, and I’ve been studying GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder).
I fit and have fit many of the symptoms most of my life, such as worrying constantly about small problems and letting them plague my mind. I never feel completely happy, I’m always worried about something. I try to stop worrying, but I end up doing it anyway. It stresses me out alot and I feel really hopeless about it. I also at a few points have had small panic attacks, a really sudden feeling of horror like something awful just happened, when nothing bad happened at all. I can’t name a specific time when these things started to bother me or when they bother me currently, it’s really random. I also have a problem with almost passing out suddenly. I’ll stand and things will just fade out.
I know many teens think they have mental problems or.. but that’s why I’ve avoided bringing this up to my parents or anyone.
My dad suffers from an anxiety disorder that I’m not sure of, but I think it might be GAD or Panic Disorder

You might want to consider taking an SSRI for a while; it really does help.
    Talk to your doctor

I had it for several years. Xanax cured it. I know it is not a cure but eventually they went away all together, the xanax made them stay gone while I had the disorder. Good luck, I know they are horrible. The worst feeling a person can have.

I myself do have anxiety disorder, you seem to have alot of the symptoms however the only thing is panic attacks aren’t normally triggered by anxiety. you should see your G.P they can refer you to a specialist if they feel that’s what you need!
    Best of luck! xxx
p.s speak to your parents if you are suffering from anxiety you’ll need their support and they will need to be able to understand or life is even more difficult! xx

I first would recommend that you tell your parents what has been happening.Nearly having blackouts is a serious matter and I have a 14 year old daughter and if I found out that my daughter was hiding facts like you have described I would be heartbroken.I would also recommend that you see a counsellor that specialises in anxiety disorders before going to see a doctor as a counsellor might be able to help you without medication and if the counsellor feels that you do need medication then go to the doctors. If you really don’t want to do any of the things that I have mentioned just as yet I do recommend a book that I have used to treat my clients with all sorts of anxiety disorders. It is called 10 days to great self esteem by Dr David burns. You won’t be free from anxiety in ten days but you will be on the road to feeling alot better. It’s a very hands on book. You have to do lots of exercises, not physical but metal exercises.I hope that what ever path you choose that it works out well for you.Take care.
