Anxiety Drive Theory
College students: Do you ever read the theories they teach you in school and think, “WTF!”?

I was a psychology major for a while, and I was stunned that I was paying to sit in a classroom and be told about Freud’s theory that men feel “castration anxiety” around women because when they were little they noticed that they don’t have penises and assumed theirs was cut off and became fearful that theirs may be too.
And that girls come to resent their mothers because they blame it on her that they never had a penis.

And now I’m taking a women in film course, and I’ve read articles saying things like women can get pleasure out of imagining that the women in films are lesbians…and theories saying that it’s bad to watch films where the males are dominant because you identify with them and desire to be like them if you’re man or masochistically enjoy watching women dominated if you’re a female.

Um no..how about you’re just watching a story unfold when you watch a movie?

Drives me nuts!

Yea I agree, Freud was just ridiculous. I think he put the psycho in psychology. He also thought that all men wanted their mothers sexually when they were younger.

Edit: I decided to look him up on wikipedia and it turns out he used cocaine too!
