Ways To Live With Anxiety
Anxiety is one of those things that can really cause a lot of problems in a person’s life. You may be having an “episode” right this minute, may have just had one, or perhaps it is just a consistent thing for you that you want to begin to control. The effects of anxiety disorders definitely extend past just the very moment where you suffer from the attacks. Small anxiety attacks can lead to larger ones and affect your day to day life. There is so much about anxiety these days, that it’s even talked about in movies and advertising.
One of the most common remedies for anxiety attacks is not medication, but rather management therapy. This doesn’t involve not having anxiety attacks, but rather separating yourself for a few minutes from physical reaction and somewhat of becoming a spectator to whatever is causing your anxiety attack. This does significantly change the intensity of any attack you would be having.
So how do you get to this point? What are the stepping stones to being able to accomplish such a thing? The first step is when you feel an anxiety attack coming on, to start doing routine positive talks to yourself. You do not have to say them out loud, just make sure you are focusing on them, and try to mean them while you are going through them in your head.
Running through the fact that the panic attacks are not physically detrimental and that they will go away in time is also a good thing to keep in mind. Also, focus on your breathing too. Take deep and consistent breaths. Sitting down will help relax you and may help the panic attack go away more quickly, or if you do it before one comes on maybe you can avoid it all together.
This is not to say that you can do other things like ignoring that you are about to have a panic attack in an effort to not have one. In fact, most professionals will tell you that trying to simply resist them can even make them worse. The idea here is not necessarily being able to avoid them all together, although some people can, but rather, being able to live with them in your day to day life. Perhaps making them less severe and easier to cope with is the best way.
The core part of handling anxiety relies heavily on you being able to collect your thoughts and the tension in your life. Perhaps doing this, you can get rid of the anxiety attacks all together. But it may take you changing your lifestyle all together in an effort to reduce the stress that causes your problem with anxiety.
Also, do things that can build up your confidence! Since depression and anxiety disorders can often run hand-in-hand, this is a great place to start working on getting rid of those problems!
When you are able to learn how to cope with the disorder rather than ignore it, you will find that anxiety is no longer an obstacle for you. You will be able to live a good and normal life.
