What are some good breathing exercises?
What are some good breathing exercises to help me relax (I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder)? Can someone please help me out?
This is a methods actors use to calm nerves before a big performance and it works very well.
Lay down flat on your back
Breathe deeply and calmly
Picture a peaceful place ( Calm scenery works for me)
Feel your fingertips, shoulders, knees, calves, and heels resting on the floor.
Now slowly breathe into your belly, through your nose, while counting to five
Pause shortly and breathe out, through your mouth to a count of five.
Continue this pattern while feeling yourself melt away slowly relaxing and spreading out on the floor.
once comfortable with the five count move onto a ten and then a fifteen
don’t force anything. let it come to you
Once reaching the fifteen count move back to the 10 count then the five.
at the five slowly start waking up your muscles starting with fingers and toes and moving into your larger limbs.
return to slow breathing
bring up your knees and slowly sit up.
For a more subtle fix in a hurry try to focus just on the breathing counts but make sure to breathe from the stomach.
