Shyness ranges on a scale from regular, run-of-the-mill shyness, which is SO common, to Social Phobia/anxiety–this when your anxiety and fear of social situations and interactions becomes so intense and unmanageable that it interferes with several areas of your life. It’s totally normal for people to feel nervous talking to strangers or even people they know. People may get butterflies, racing heart, sweaty palms, flushed, etc. There are several things you can try that may help–taking some deep breaths, repeating a calming phrase to yourself, or briefly glancing away if that helps. If it continues to get worse, you may want to talk to a therapist to learn some skills and ways to manage your anxiety.
