Anxiety Gastrointestinal Problems

Gasping and labored breathing … Anxiety? Asthma? Heart?
For the past month or so I have been having a problem with my breathing. Whether active or at rest I have to gasp a little for air, although walking/being active is worse. My BP is normal. I tried asthma meds and they didnt help. My EKG was normal in April. I have no allergies. I just started Zoloft for anxiety and I still find myself gasping for air. I do not have a problem when I am sleeping. I sleep soundly. I take Ativan at night and it helps me sleep and also when I get nervous when I start gasping, because I get scared because I’m gasping. I have been dealing with this for a month now and cant see how it can be Anxiety for a solid month. The breathing problem seems to come fro mthe center of my chest, just below my pecs. My pulmonologist thinks it is GERD, but I saw gastrointestinal doctor and he found nothing to think it was GERD. I am at my wits end! Please help!
Sounds like you have gotten a full physical, if not, make sure to request one from your doctor.
Your doctor did diagnose anxiety.
Yes, the symptoms of anxiety are long. I know as I dealt with severe anxiety attacks for years. It took me so long to understand how one’s mind can create so much dysfunction within the body.
Also, fascinating for me to learn was how our “fear” of our symptoms can further feed this anxiety creating more of these scary and concerning symptoms.
Yes, fear and worry over the many disconcerting symptoms and sensations can feed this whole frustrating cycle.
There are a couple of must reads to help you understand not only what your thoughts can do to create anxiety but also to better understand these many various symptoms including breathing issues. Finally, these books will teach you what you can do to simply overcome anxiety with easy to follow self help methods.
The absolute best and easily affordable resource which was tremendously helpful in overcoming my anxiety disorder was a book by Dr. Claire Weekes, Hope and Help For Your Nerves.
Dr. Weekes was an amazing woman who surely must have walked the path of having an anxiety disorder with her deep understanding of knowing exactly what one is going through.
Dr. Weekes is widely acclaimed for her revolutionary self help methods for treating anxiety, panic, and phobic disorders.
She has achieved distinction as the first woman Doctor of Science at the University of Sydney, and was recognized by Queen Elizabeth II for her contributions to medicine.
Claire Weekes opened up new fields of thought in self help psychiatry. Because her down to earth methods were so highly regarded, she was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1983, and once again in 1990. She was years ahead of her time and her work is as beneficial now as it has always been.
She has helped millions around the world to first understand the numerous anxiety symptoms that one can experience from stress and overly spent nerves. She will then teach you how to simply overcome your anxiety disorder.
Weekes has another book, Peace From Nervous Suffering, which is more geared for one struggling with agoraphobia. However, there are some real kernels of wisdom that can help you also.
You will obtain lots of helpful information from each book. This is brilliant and yet easy to understand and practical information that has helped millions regain their mental health again. Her “right-on-the-money” self help methods are really life changing.
After recovering from anxiety and understanding quite clearly this scary path, I was inspired to create a website to share how I got well to help others regain their mental balance and provide further hope that recovery is truly being achieved by millions http://www.healthbanquet.com/anxiety-hope.html
You can learn all the more natural steps I took to overcome my severe and debilitating anxiety at my website. But, it sounds to me like you first must be sure it is your anxiety that is causing your breathing issues.
If your doctor does all the necessary tests and all checks out fine except for your anxiety issue, then believe him. Believe that your mind really can create many perplexing symptoms that can “trick” you into thinking surely something else must be causing your health concerns or symptoms.
Next, address your anxiety disorder.
Hopefully, the resources presented will help you on this get well journey.
To your balance once again,
