Anxiety Only At Night
Why do I have feelings of anxiety and self-loathing but only during the middle of the night?

I don’t have these feelings at all during the day – in fact, I wake up feeling like my thoughts during the night were silly and out of proportion.

When people are advised to ‘sleep on’ a problem it helps, because while you are asleep you get the chance to sort out subconscious conflicts (which cause things like anxiety and self-loathing), and that’s why you dream.

These conflicts are sorted by the time you wake up, so you realise how out of proportion they were. When you feel anxiety and self-loathing in the night, it’s because your brain is still in the process of working through all of your worries.
