Anxiety Over Health Issues
What to do when your spouse has unresolved mental health issues?

My spouse struggles with anxiety and depression. Both have gotten significantly worse over the last few years. He will not seek the treatment that he needs to help with these problems. These issues make it very hard for him to meet my emotional needs. About a year ago I told him that if he didn’t get help he needed that I was going to have to leave. He put in a little effort at first, but now his problems are the worst they have ever been and he doesn’t seem to be at a place where I think he is going to get help anytime soon. I feel like I don’t have much more to give to this relationship. Does any one have any advice or is it time for me to leave?

I have anxiety, and it is tough. What treatment should he be seeking? You can’t make anyone do anything, but people with anxiety need some level of responsibility for themselves. It’s really easy to get over dependent on other people. It’s a selfish affliction, but it’s hard on the person who has it too. I’m not sure if I have advice. There are tons of books written by professionals about it. But if he isn’t willing to try to get better, he won’t get better. I’m about 90% better than I was but I see a therapist, meds, etc… some days are still hard, but overall I’m doing well. I do know that you have the right to be in a relationship that meets your needs. But realize someone in anxiety isn’t in their “right mind” You might need to take a break, not necessarily divorce, but you wouldn’t be wrong to take some time for yourself and see how it goes. I hope that was helpful
