Anxiety Over Money

Anyone else who grew up poor have problems spending money now?
I grew up in a very poor family, but am now in my late 20s with a secure job that pays alright. But I have serious anxiety over spending money. If I tell my mom I’m going out of town for the weekend or even out to dinner, she thinks I’m being “extravagant”.
But the reality is, I barely ever EVER spend money. I save as much as I can and feel extreme guilt anytime I do something as small as going out for lunch with colleagues. My spouse is constantly on my case about being cheap.
Anyone ever have this issue? How did you deal?
I guess I’m interested in wondering how I can overcome the anxiety of spending money. It eats away at me all the time.
It took my parents more than 60 years to break that habit. They are still someone slightly reticent to spend money. That is a common problem for people who grew up poor and had to watch EVERY PENNY. Today, many people don’t even watch their $20 bills. What a different world we live in!
Don’t apologize for being frugal (cheap). It’s a good quality to watch one’s spending habits.
