How do YOU cope with high anxiety/panic attacks?

I suffer from panic attacks, and have a huge fear of rain/thunder storms. I can cope with the attacks, because I know that they will end, and a new day will begin. Tonite, we are expecting some bad weather. I cannot go online, or shower (this is what usually calms me) during this, so what are some things I can do? I always feel nauseas and have diahrea when my anxiety is high. If I take bonine and imodium a.d., will that help? What are some techniques that calm you? I have 4 small children, so I must be calm, but alert. Thanks all.

You sound like I was about 3 years ago. I still fear storms sometimes but not as bad. I take Lexapro and it helps me. The storms are not as bad as I usually fear. Find an activity to do with your children like a board game or sing and dance, just try to have fun. Don’t listen to people who say psychiatrist ruin your life. This is a real, sometimes serious problem. It was ruining my life by not getting the help I needed. Storms were not the only fears I had. It is terrible to live this way. Just remember, you cannot do anything about it, the storm will pass, try to be in the safest part of your house, say a prayer, God will take care of you. God doesn’t give us a feeling of fear, He wants us happy! God Bless and Take Care!
