Anxiety Pregnancy Hormones

Was this a rational pregnancy decision?
My whole pregnancy has been a nightmare with anxiety and moods. I choose to forego medication, against the advise of my doctor. I had ALOT of emotional and mental issues to work out from my life and past and I knew that hormones tend to trigger things that I normally ignore or keep burried (like instant rage attacks, second guessing myself, anxiety attacks, etc). With hormones you can’t hide from these things. So I used these 9 months to wade my way through every single irrational response and work through issues with my family so I can move on after baby, with a healthy emotional and mental mind set.
Was this a good or bad move. I know that stress pregnancy is not good. I am 36 weeks and have had such a monsterous, hormonal pregnancy. I am wondering if I did the right thing?
I personally have a lot of issues, and I am pregnant as well. I choose to not ask for medicine due to the fact that you never know what it could do. I know that stress isn’t good either, but I feel as if I am testing myself and growing as a person because I feel more capable of dealing with things on my own now.
