Anxiety Problems In Dogs
Dogs and seperation anxiety?

I’m juggling the thought of whether to get a dog or cat. I still can’t decide i love them both. I’m currently working but hopefully in 6 months I will be a full time student again.
if I get a dog it’s only going to be a small one.
People have told me to get a cat because dogs get seperation anxiety. They told me that if I get one now, when I get back to school it’ll get seperation anxiety and start tearing up my apartment. Others have told me that it only certain breeds of dogs have seperation anxiety problems. A colleague told me that she had a dog and then went to school but her dog never had a problem. I was wondering if any of this is true? if it’s partially true, how much of it is true?
Whether I get a dog or cat it’s going to be from the pound or animal shelter.
So I need to know about dogs in general
Someone even suggested I get 2 dogs so they’ll never be lonely. But then someone else said that maybe one might get seperation anxiety and the other might be fine.

I think separation anxiety is the owner’s fault. Research it before you get a dog. The main cause of separation anxiety is lack of leadership by the owner and lack of exercise for the dog. Watch the Dog Whisperer or read Cesar Millan’s books _Cesar’s Way_ or _Be the Pack Leader_ before you get your dog so you understand how to control your dog’s behavior from day one.

Don’t get two dogs… you need to be able to control one dog, and you don’t want to overwhelm yourself right away.

I’m just not a cat fan… I like animals you can romp around with in the yard and play ball and frisbee.
