How to convince my parents to let me get a cat/kitten?

I want a cat for stress-relief, and because I think I could take good care of one. My parents are opposed to cats, their main argument is that they are “dog-people.” I could keep the cat in my room with a scratch post and litter box, I have a couch and bed and some other furniture for her to sleep on. I have enough money to successfully care for a kitten, but I need parental consent to bring one into the house. Btw, I have an anxiety disorder, and I think a cat could help me with that. Also, I am 16, and my parents like to give me responsibilities and see how well I “handle my business” as they put it. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE, I would greatly appreciate your help. THANKS!

I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to get a kitten.

A cat is a 20 year commitment that causes way more stress over time than it relieves.

Living in a bedroom is not ideal for a cat. Imagine having to stay in your house or apartment forever.. You may have everything you need, but would you be happy?

Because you are 16, it would be irresponsible to get a cat for yourself when your parents are not interested in having one. You have no way of knowing for sure where your life is going to take you. College? Job across the country? Armed forces? You will be tied down for the next 20 years if you get a kitten, and you will be responsible for its life and happiness, not just your own. If you were to decide to make a life choice that no longer allowed you to accommodate a cat, that cat would likely be out of a home.

I don’t mean to ruin your dream here, I was in your position when I was a teenager, but if you just hold out until you’re on your own and your life is stable, you’ll be glad you waited.
