Anxiety Separation Diagnosis
Question about the character Bob in the movie “What About Bob”?

so what diagnosis would you give him? what does he have? he lists that he has problems with moving and diseases, has “multiphobic anxiety”, acute separation anxiety, etc., and is paranoid about germs. so what does he have? what is wrong with him?

Thanks in advance. 10 points to best answer.

I love that movie! However, it’s not very reality based as Bob’s symptoms don’t really fit in with one or more diagnoses. You said (you remember the movie better than I do) he says he has “multiphobic anxiety,” which I presume means he has lots of specific phobias. Like, he’s phobic about the dark, a hypochondriac, etc. Also, I seem to remember some OCD-like symptoms where things HAD to be a specific way. Moreover, he’s so anxious about everything, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (in addition to OCD and several Specific Phobias) seems likely. Gosh, that covers most of the anxiety disorders… good thing he didn’t end up with PTSD from the “death therapy!” Bob also seems depressed. Let’s see, what else… just guessing, without having my DSM in front of me… Dependent Personality Disorder?

Now, his psychiatrist, on the other hand is obviously Narcisstic Personality Disorder!
