Anyone have (and can help) with an anxiety/panic disorder involving the bladder?

I recently had a bladder infection, and because of this I developped an anxiety/panic disorder. I fear going anywhere where I don’t know if there’ll be a bathroom. I can’t sit in school, or a car because sitting in a closed place makes it worse. Home is ok because there’s a bathroom. But, I’ll get really warm and feel a panic attack coming when I’m faced with these situations. I haven’t heard of many attacks like that, but my doctor said some people get them like I do. I’m on meds now, but can anyone help with a way to relieve the anxiety I feel? Thanks.

Try reading “The Anxiety Cure” by Archibald Hart. It’s a very helpful book for people dealing with anxiety and panic attacks. Also try getting a book on relaxation techniques. You can learn some ways to relax (even in public) when you feel a panic attack coming on.

The key to curing anxiety is understanding the root cause, which is often deeper than it looks. I have social anxiety and get nervous when I’m called on in class, so I figured the cause of the anxiety was fear of not having the right answer. Then I got counseling and realized that the root cause was actually my fear of not being accepted by people, and so now I’m working on that.

A good counselor could help you understand the reasons for your panic attacks, and would also be able to help teach you ways to relax.
