Approach Anxiety Tips
Needle Phobia!! How to control it?

OK – I suffer from trypanophobia which is an irrational fear of needles (doctors are included in the phobia too) and I will either cry, jump up off the table or try to leave the room when someone approaches me with a needle.

Simply being in a doctors office will send my blood pressure sky high.

I’m 11 weeks pregnant and my doctor visits so far have been good because I knew what to expect from each one (although I did sit there and bawl when they drew my blood). On my second visit, they did the physical exam and I was fine except that my BP was over 160 due to anxiety.

Anyhow, my question is, does anyone know of any techniques that I can use to help control my fear? I don’t know the root cause of the fear. With the glucose test on the horizon and more blood tests I want to be able to control myself.

Any tips or advice?

You just have to get this mind set, your tougher than it is, it wont kill you do just go do it type of attitude. Its almost an anger feeling tougher than it is. Im really afriad of bees, really afraid, Ive been stung by just about everything too, but in times where I must be in control, say walking with my grandson, I just muster up pure courage and almost rage against against bees, so that I am more passive about walking around in areas where they are knowing I can smash them kind of like mentality. Im a pure wimp with needles too, and I was just on the phone with my daughter who will be getting an epidural in an hour or so, and shes afraid of needles, shes done great with the needles and pregnancy deal, shes also diabetic from the pregnancy and has to test a few times a day, and has mastered her fear. I think the courage is going to come to you now that this is all very necessary!!!! Stay tough!!!!
