Are phobias always due to some childhood incident which may stay in memory or go into the sub-conscious?

I don’t have a complete answer to this but I do have a comment. I have been terrified of clowns for as long as I can remember. But I had never had any incident that would make me scared of them , it’s just something I’ve always been scared of. And I believe phobias are psychological. Sorry I couldn’t answer your question properly, but I hope I helped a little. (:
