I also suffer from panic attacks when I am under severe stress for long periods of time. When I went through my divorce I was terrified to leave the house for fear of having one in public. I can relate to your fears and your frustration. The good news is that they can be controlled and they can go away altogether. Panic attacks seem to become more frequent and more severe when you are afraid of having them. It’s a vicious cycle. You worry about having one; that causes stress; the stress leads to another attack; then you become more fearful of having another one.

I would suggest talking to your physician if you have not already done so. They can prescribe an anti-anxiety medication, such as Xanax, to reduce nervousness that contributes to the attacks.

I would also encourage you to see a counselor. You may be able to figure out triggers that lead to the panic attacks, as well as coping strategies to reduce the frequency and intensity of the attacks.

I would also suggest doing some research on-line. You may be able to find a support group in your area or an on-line support group so you can meet others that suffer from panic attacks. Just talking with someone who understands what you’re going through really helps. You might also find some helpful books or websites.

Just remember–the panic attacks do not control your life, you do. Good luck!

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called “St John’s Wort” – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….
