Beat Anxiety Without Medication

Will I ever get over my social anxiety?
I mean without taking medication.
I am so stressed out about it, I am so tired and I would be so glad to die.
Guess what, I’m just back from yet another tentative night out and it was a nightmare.
I’m trying conselling but it’s still too early.
When I’m home alone I even feel hopeful about it but as soon as I expose myself to any social situation it all crashes down again….
I’m losing hope of ever being able to have a normal social life and enjoy myself…… but I so much WANT TO!
I would much rather go to the grave at 90 and knowing that I beat this awful illness and having had a fulfilling life… than having to put a plastic bag over my head now.
Is there any hope?
If you don’t want to take medication, you can always try what is called “Talk therapy”. A form of talk therapy would be cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). This teaches people to react differently to the situations that trigger their anxiety syptoms. The therapist helps the patient confront the negative feelings about their social situation, and the fear of being judged by others. You learn how your thinking pattern adds to your symptoms, and how to change your thinking so the symptoms lessen.this is combined with other behavioral techniques, such as gradual, controlled exposure to an anxiety-provoking situation until the patient learns to identify and modify behavior that contributes to his or her social anxiety.
Social skills training is a component of “talk” therapy. This is where you meet with a professional therapist to discuss problematic situations.Patients are shown how to make eye contact, talk louder and slower, greet people and say good-bye, ask for favors, respond to requests and criticism. The hope is that knowing exactly what to say and do in social situations will ease the patient’s anxiety.
Good luck
