Brown bag breathing technique to help anxiety?
I have prolonged periods of anxiety and wanted to try breathing into a brown paper bag to see if it would help bring my anxiety level down but I don’t know for how long I should breath into the bag before letting the “old” air out.
You really don’t need a bag. Deep breathing will reduce stress levels anyway. In through the nose, hold, out through the mouth slowly. Usually, after about 20 breaths you will start to feel calmer. Focus completely on the breathing.
If you’re actually hyperventilating, the bag is a good idea. Again, 20 or so slow, deep breaths should make a difference.
