Car Anxiety In Dogs
How can I relieve my dog’s anxiety?

I have two miniature pinschers, a boy and a girl, and the boy has some pretty severe anxiety. The female is extremely calm, and only ever barks if the male gets her going. The male min pin seems to get anxious in just about any circumstance outside of his normal routine, for example:

* Barks at the front window when someone passes
* Barks at new furniture, plants, etc. inside or outside the home
* Whines and pants heavily during car rides
* Barks at other dogs
* Barks when I leave the house (I keep him crated, but not the female)

As you can see, most of his issues are with barking, but for some reason, he just doesn’t learn by example. I would think both dogs would be nuts, or neither, but not one? He’s a really loving dog, and not aggressive. He just barks at a lot of things and gets real panicky when he’s uncertain/unfamiliar with the situation.

If he were a human, I’d get him a prescription for xanax. Anyone have any suggestions?

You should watch “The Dog Whisperer”.
You need to give him more direction – tap him on the neck and shh him for correction when he is doing these things. Showing him boundaries will relax him.
