Is anxiety treatable by a general doctor, or would I have to go to someone psychiatric?

All my gastrointestinal problems are caused by anxiety and its bringing me down. I’ve always been reluctant to get anxiety medication because I’m a senior mechanical engineering student and I fear it will hinder my higher thinking. Will it? Will a regular doctor give me the medication?

This would be treated by your Doctor with medication and possibly with a referral for some CBT. It is very unlikely a psychiatrist or a mental health team would be involved unless your anxiety is due to some other condition.
