Fear Of Kids
My sheltie is fear of kids, what should I do?

My one year old sheltie is fear of kids. she will not let any kid pet her or get near her.

when she was just two months old, she got stepped on by my friend’s 4 years old son. when we went to outlet together, a kid on purposely scare my dog by screaming behind her for a few times. when we went to NY, a kid throw a cup at my dog. she really had many bad experiences with kids, she always got chased by the kid or sudden grab and hold by my friend’s kids.

She is really fearful of kids,
what should I do to overcome her fear??

please help me with this!!
she is just a perfect dog and I want her to be perfect -er!

Sounds like you allowed your dog to get into to potentially dangerous situations – & it has develoed a fear after children have mis treated it – I’d be fearful of kids too if they did that to me !!

I reccomend keeping it away from children under the age of 12 – for the dogs sake – itroduce it to OLDER mature children ( 14 + ) have them give it a treat & talk nicely to it , DO NOT let toddleres & children under 12 close to your dog. depending how your dog is with the kids & the kids with the dog ( alot of kid issues are due to the kids problems NOt the dogs ) start SLOWLy introducing it to younger & younger children ONLY when fully supervised

good luck — But why push the subject I’ld just get him her socilazed with 12 year old children older individuals who know how to behave around dogs – most younger children can & will abuse animals – thats where your dog’s fear started
