Maggie M asked:
Theres nothing in particular that I am stressing about, just the usual things like money and stuff. what can i do when i get an anxiety attack to calm down without drugs?
I recently lost 55 pounds and had been up until a week ago working out 3-4 days a week and have tae kwon day once a week. Could the fact that I have stopped working out be why i am so anxious?

When you are having anxiety it builds up adrenaline in your body. Try going for a fast walk,it helps burn off the adrenaline faster. It works better for me the meditation or meds.
Preventive measures include regular exercise and eating healthy. The more significant one is therapy which can help you learn to look at the world differently. One of the biggest changes that it can bring about is to help you learn how to let go of the things that you cannot control, which is one of the biggest sources of anxiety. As for during an attack, deep breathing and meditative thinking, exercises and distractions if you are in a situation that you can go do them.

Despite all the BS you hear and all the “miracle” drugs out there that promise you everything from cure for depression, anxiety, halitosis, BO, obesity and next thing you know, death and aging itself, the primary cause of most of these psychological and mostly psychosomatic illnesses as anxiety, depression, fatigue is LACK of exercise.
You got stress because of stupid bullies at school, upcoming SATs, a stupid beauty pageant your stupid mother demands you enter because “her dahling is the loveliest girl in existence”…blah blah blah blah blah. Parents by themselves are more stress than a hundred years spent in high school….
Recommendation: learn Karate, Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing, Kick Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, something…
Get active, learn, use that brain of yours and learn a few new tricks, get that fat lazy body of yours in shape and watch the new you:
Without PILLS and at a 10th of the cost of medical BS
You now have confidence, a nicer, stronger body and tremendously reduced depression, fatigue and anxiety and worse comes to worse you can kick the candy asses of your detractors which is probably as fun as sex with a hot stud or sex kitten.
deep breathing helps me

First of all, excercise is a good idea, BUT, for some people, the increased heart rate that is a healthy side effect of excercise may tell the body “oh no, we are anxious again” so if you are one of these people you may want to stay away from high intensity workouts for a while. Also, you have to get to a point (usually after you have had enough experience with anxiety and panic attacks and are becoming annoyed with them instead of distressed ) where you realize that it is not going to kill you and will pass. Practice breathing and relaxation techniques but don’t wait until you are having an attack to start practicing!! Do it a few times a day even when you are calm to start teaching your body some relaxation cues. stay away from caffeine and sugar-anything that will hype you up additionally. Good luck, and yes you can do it:)
I agree that regular exercise is the first thing you should try. I have had problems with anxiety in the past year myself, and I’ve started walking every morning before my kids and husband wake up. It takes some effort, but it’s worth it. I don’t like the idea of anti-anxiety drugs, either, and I’ve read that regular exercise has proven to reduce both anxiety and depression just as well or better than medications. Another thing I’ve tried with some success is meditation and deep breathing exercises. Recently I’ve also gone to an acupuncturist – I’ve only had one session, but I have to say that immediately afterwards I felt very relaxed, focused and energized. It might work for you, too, if you have one available in your area. But exercise is the thing that has helped me the most and the fastest! Good luck!
Sometimes walking or excersing can calm you down. If you a anxiety attack at home sometimes a shower or bath might calm you down. Another I do is call a friend or relative just to talk. When you are stress or worrying about things just keep calm and takes things one day at a time.
