I was in a family accident when i was a kid and two family members died. My older brother also had a terrible accident and he almost died about a year ago. I know how to drive, but i can’t get rid of the fear of actually driving on the road and of dying in an accident. A lot of people drive crazy. I am ready to drive because I need to go places on my own but i’m scared of what might happen. I would really appreciate the advice and tips. thanks.

Baby steps… start out short trips on 2 lane local roads (no highways)… in fact, map out the back roads to your favorite destinations and stick to them… hit the highways when you feel you have conquered your fears of the slower roads !
The longer you drive the better. I used to hat driving, I still do, but I can tolerate it now. You need to just drive and drive and drive until you feel like you own the road. Just follow speed limits and road rules and you’ll be fine
Pick some roads with little traffic on them and drive at times when few cars are out and about. Set aside lots of time. Pick a spot that is 3-4 hours drive away from your home (along quiet roads), and then set off. Try to enjoy the scenery. For every hour you spend driving you will become more confident. As you become more confident, try to drive on roads with more traffic. Bring a friend. Talk.
Also, make a conscious effort to become a better driver. Use your mirrors routinely. Pay attention to what is in front of you and behind you. Rule of thumb: at any given time you should be able to answer what sort of car is right behind you. If you can’t you have not been paying attention. Also try to focus on more than the car in front of you when driving in traffic. Try to pay attention to what is further ahead.
I would also check if there are any courses you can take for driving cars on a track. A course where you can practice braking hard, avoiding obstacles etc and get to know your car better. Most drives have no experience handling difficult, near-accident situations on the road and instinctively do stupid things.
