How can I overcome my fear of going to the gym?

I’m overweight and really want to lose weight and be healthy. I just recently joined 24hr fitness about a week ago. I’m embarrassed to go to the gym because I am very self-conscious and I worry about what others will think of me. I try not care but its so hard! Any advice on how I can overcome this fear? Thank you!

    I would say dont care about what others think. If anything they wont care and see if you can get a friend to come with you for moral and support.

    1) People do not care. In fact if you are really overweight people appreciate that you are actively achieving a goal and improving your life.
    2) Focus on how much better you will feel when you achieve your goal every moment you are in the gym.
    3) You can say in your mind, I’m getting stronger and healthier with every moment I spend in the gym.

    Shit when i see overweight people go to the gym i be like ATLEAST THEY ARE TRYING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THERE WIEGHT/HEALTH/LIFE, ITS NOT YOUR GOING TO A FAST FOOD PLACE, ILL BE LIKE MAN YOUR SUCH A FAT PIG GO DO SOME EXCERSISE OR SOMETHING . BUT SINCE YOUR GOING TO THE GYM THATS THE FIRST RIGHT STEP TO LOSE WIEGHT AND I BET EVERYONE RESPECT THAT !!! I DO !!

    SO DON’T WORRY JUST GO AND YOU WILL SOON HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE THAN EVER =D

    I can understand being self conscious, but there’s really nothing to be afraid or ashamed of. You’re taking a step toward being healthy, and people should respect that. And besides, people at the gym are there for them. They don’t run on the treadmill and look around for overweight people to make fun of. All they’re there for is to workout. And if they’re really is someone there who is judging you, they’re just a flat out jerk! You don’t need people like that in your life, and you don’t need to listen to the things they say, because none of it is true. Don’t be embarrassed of going to the gym-you should be proud!
