How do I cure myself of a fear of snakes?

17 June 2010 4 Comments
Prince of Obscurity asked:

I hate snakes, always have really, although as far as I am aware without any rational reason. I’d like to overcome this somehow (it’s more of a dislike than an actual fear); any suggestions?
Serious answers only please.

They say to overcome a fear you have to face it. I’d go to a pet store that has snakes and ask to handle some.

With the help of a good psychologist, I suggest you try flooding. This is done when the object of one’s fear is placed all around the person with said fear. Think of the spider scene at the end of Indiana Jones. Flooding is a proven way to help about 60 to 70 percent of fears. Just make sure it’s a safe environment, so use garden snakes and other harmless snakes. No cobras or rattlesnakes.
