Whenever I see blood, my vision often will blur, I’ll feel dizzy and sick to my stomach, and sometimes I pass out.

I really would like to overcome my fear of blood, because I want to be a doctor someday, but this doesn’t seem feasible because of my fear.
Any help?

drink it……………..ya i know freaky……but im a freaky girl
idk i have the same fear its hard
me tooo and i really want to get over it too because I want to work with animals and take their blood and do other things that involves blood.
you have to face your fear. surround yourself by it and deal with it. okay so you might faint. well when you wake up it will be right there beside you again. okay so you might vomit…well whatever its still gona be there. eventually ur gona have to come to terms with it. thats my advice to you.
Systematic desensitization. Just expose yourself to small amounts of blood at a time in non-threatening situations and places, and gradually increase the amount and your proximity to the blood. That’s the most effective method.
Sounds like a phobia. There are two good ways to deal wtih phobias. The first, and most preferrable is to “Desensitize” yourself to it. Slowly start off with looking at pictures. It might make you feel bad, but suffer through it. Then move on to videos, and keep doing that until you’re okay with it. In time, you will be able to see the real thing.
The other method is “flooding” which is just exposing yourself to it, the real thing, for several seconds. Just keep doing that over and over.
Good luck!
I’m no doctor, but try telling yourself constantly when you’re in front of it “it’s all in my mind – there is nothing wrong w/ blood” –that’s how i overcame my fear of being tickled!
And try exposing yourself to it more often.
Go to a hospital, have someone give you a tour, or just watch bloody / gory movies..
The more you see it, and the more you train your mind to react differently the easier it’ll become to be near it.
Lol you’re afraid of blood??? well go to a psychological thats your only hope
umm first of all this is a dumb q because u have blood in your body so its like ur afraid of your self so its kinda dumb not to be mean or anything like that though
what do you do when you menstruate?
you have to accept that blood is a good thing that really helps your body and could save your life. If you get an open cut, train more and more on healing the cut and acting right away on what to do
Well, the only way to get over a fear, is really to confront it. I guess..when you go to the doc’s have them help you and make sure your comfortable i guess lol good luck!
Well you should try training to be a doctor and see if you can get used to seeing blood.
it’s nothing to be ashamed of, but the best way to beat your fear is to confront it.
Rent these movies:
Scream
Severence
Saw 1, 2, 3
Robocop (yes, thats really bloody)
And Die Hard (bloody but more believeable)
Watch through the night, if you must drink to calm yourself, do. (only light stuff though).
By the next morning I guarantee you will be desensitized to the look of blood (and slightly demented).
So that’s the look done.
Next is the smell. Take a tour of some sort of slaughterhouse, or just go to the butchers and stand at the meat counter for a while.
And finally, the feel. blood feels like slightly thick water (various injuries over the years have taught me that much).
Take a litre of water, some red dye (coloring), and a small handful of flour. mix together and voila, a (relatively unconvincing) fake blood mix. Dip your hands in and feel around. Realize that they won’t actually fall off by touching blood.
There you go, desensitized
(and probably too mentally unstable to become a Doctor)
GOODNIGHT!
@ EDIT @
Roberto is on to something there… Convince yourself that as a medic you have the power to make the blood stop. And if you fear blood, convince yourself that the best course of action is to prevent more blood from coming out.
(It’s a shortstop i know, but it might work well as a psychological tool)
Doctor’s often have ways of distancing themselves from this kind of problem. Try thinking of the human body when it is bleeding as a broken machine. If a car breaks it can leak oil, a printer it can leak ink etc… certainly face your fear watch someone who is bleeding from minor cuts and realise that blood is simply the oil of the human body. As a doctor you can think “I can fix that” and the more you do it you will find your fear disappearing. Fear of blood is very common it is usually linked to a natural desire to avoid injury, when you see blood try to concentrate and don’t let your fear overcome you.
