Mel asked:

I don’t go to any therapists… That is why I don’t want any medecine suggestions.
I just need help, I am currently dealing with a weight anxiety and I can’t wait 10 weeks to end this diet… I am really sad because I am lacking motivation and this anxiety is making me eat more and more and more… What do I do?
How do I control myself and stop letting this anxiety control me?

It will be very hard, but it can be done! I’ll give a list of things that pop in my head:
    (1) Meditate and try self hypnosis. There are some very good self hypnosis videos on youtube, and throughout the videos tell yourself that you will not eat, that you are not hungry, etc.
    (2) Chew gum, all sorts. Or Jawbreakers, where you can’t bite down without hurting yourself.
    (3) Do something to take your mind off of everything. Take a drive, put on some music, do art, write, play a video game, play tiddlywinks, ANYTHING!!!!
    (4) Think of something horribly disgusting in association with food, look up some disgusting stuff that would make you vomit just thinking of food. This technique works WONDERS on me!

That’s all I can think of for now- STAY STRONG!

First of all, good for you for seeing the folly in drugging people! In reality, all mental activity is really just chemical activity in the brain. Drugs provide chemicals to affect this activity, but most drugs have side effects. Just changing your way of thinking (your attitude, your lifestyle, your worldview) is almost ALWAYS the more precise, more effective, better, more long-term decision. If you think a therapist would help though (the answer is yes, a therapist can help anyone and everyone), then see a plain psychologist first, instead of a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists can prescribe meds, but plain psychologists can only talk with you.

The one activity that has been proven most helpful: exercise! That goes for everyone, not just people who are unhappy with their body image like you are. Exercise releases chemicals in the brain that make you happier, stabler, more energetic, and even smarter! It’s the wonder drug! And not even a drug! Finding motivation is tough at first, to say the least, but exercise is an addictive behavior and before you know it, it will be second nature. There’s really nothing else that can turn your life around so completely.

I know I’m a kind of science sap, but I do believe with good, sound reason, that education is the best answer for you. Study up. You’ll find out that the best solution is to postpone some meals to exercise first. It’s called “delayed gratification,” and makes the meal more satisfying, so you’ll have fewer food cravings later. In addition, eating right after a workout is the healthiest time to eat. It hardly matters what you eat; all the nutrients will go toward muscle toning and energy regeneration instead of fat buildup.

BTW, since motivation is so hard, especially in the beginning, especially if you’re out of shape, especially if you have anxiety issues… finding a workout partner really, really helps. I recommend Craigslist > Personals > Strictly Platonic to find people with similar workout goals.
