How do you get over an instinctive fear?

I have a fear of something that most people would find as completely rational, instinctive. I really need to get over it because it hinders me from work. It would be great if someone could help me.

One of the reasons for this being so hard is the way I always have this almost subconscious hope that someone would come and help me. That is an impossibility and I know that but I just can’t accept it. However I don’t have the time to focus on getting rid of that deep seated issue.

Most psychologists can eliminate fears fairly easily, using procedures like systematic desensitization. It typically takes 6-8 weeks but they may be able to expedite it if you need to. Call your local psych referral service and ask for a behavioral psychologist, or just describe your problem and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction.
