Marianne asked:
I’m writing an essay in Psychology, and I’m supposed to analyze the causes of phobias from different perspectives, such as the psycho dynamic perspective, the cognitive perspective, the psychoanalytic perspective and the biological perspective. I’m also supposed to write about the different treatments of these, but I don’t know what to say when it comes to the biological perspective. How can you treat a phobia which is a result of the evolution? For example, acrophobia is more common than fear for squirrels, because you are more likely to survive if you do not expose yourself to heights. But you don’t survive more because you get panic every time you see a squirrel, so there’s no reason for nature to let humanity keep it. Therefor acrophobia is more common and easier to get than phobia of squirrels. So, fear of heights, how can you treat it if it is caused by the evolution?
