I think social anxiety is healthy
i live in New York and my social enviroment is unhealthy
Honestly, go to a doctor, its worth it. Their is not a single reason not to.
Social anxiety is a widespread problem. You are not alone.
In fact, there are people out there that are more terrified of speaking in front of others than they are of death.
Taking pills may relieve some anxiety, but it’s not a pop the pill and the problem goes away solution. We wished that life was that easy.
It’s like getting out of a bad relationship or grieiving the death of a love one, the feelings are not going to go away no matter what pill you take.
One thing you can do is take “baby steps”. Start out small.
Maybe make small talk. Or join toastmasters in which they teach you how to speak in front of people.
I remember I was once terribly shy and asking a girl out was like climbing Mt. Everest. I overanalzed things and made a big deal out of it. My heart started pounding. I would ponder of what I was going to say. Where in reality, I met most women, when I was just myself and talking to them, like I would talk to a neighbor.
Go to your doctor and ask him to prescribe Lexapro for your anxiety. However, before a doctor can write you out a prescription he will do
an extensive background check to see if it runs in the family or just started with you. He will also ask you a lot of questions, to see if anxiety is truly what you have or possible something else. What I recommend for you to do if you do not wish to go to the doctor’s, then start excising more, try your vary best not to get so stressed out, get a good 8 hours of sleep, and eat a healthy hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Well, I needed meds to deal with all the physical symptoms of social phobia. Mine was baaaaad. So I totally advocate at least giving pharmaceuticals a try–natural isn’t always better.
But therapy is really the most important thing after you get your physical issues under control. Try the book _Dying of Embarrassment_–that’s the book I used (and I was also in individual therapy.) It will help you get some perspective on yourself and the anxiety you face and help you deal with what’s really bugging you (and it’s not just the social situations.) Anybody would feel stressed in certain situations, but a little ol’ social engagement? If that freaks you out, there’s plenty you can do to settle down those rogue nerves. I did exposure therapy, and it helped me out a lot. If you’re absolutely anti-meds, then try some Calms Forte (Hyland’s) or valerian or chamomile or some of that Tension Tamer tea. And NO stimulants–no caffeine, no cigarettes, and no uppers from the convenience store. I know you’re already committed to avoiding illegal uppers, like meth and all that. But skip ephedra and ma huang and all those nasty little “all-natural” uppers, too. And don’t smoke to ease your anxiety, cigarettes or pot. There are some natural remedies, but they don’t always help a lot, so don’t rely on them too much. Therapy and meds are probably your best bet.
disagree with the doctor comment. I Suffer from SAD also. I dont recomend a normal Phicitian because they often dont know enough about mental disorders and can make the worst decicion which is medicate without proper support. An actual couselor or psychiatrist is the most important thing. I chose to not medicate myself even having a high level of anxiety becaue of watching my friends and family struggle harder with the medications. They may work wonders initially, but side effects can be horrible and those days you forget them or if you cant afford them anymore you’re gonna fly off the handle so to speak.
To get through it really takes somone knowledgable to show you better ways to deal with the feelings. Healthy lifestlye changes can help your system. There are lots of self help books on the subject that can help you change your thinking patterns. From my understanding of a year of counseling is that it’s gonna be here for good. Medications only help you quickly do what you can do on your own naturally. So the best thing to do is learn to deal with the feelings on a healthy level.
Don’t ever let anyone make you feel like you’re “crazy” either. you didnt ask for this disorder, but you have to deal with it. And some of the most talented actors/musicians/althletes suffer from anxiety disorders. Think of it this way. Most people have heads that run at the speed of a scooter. Your brain moves at the speed of a Ferrari. If you dont learn how to handle all that power, you’re gonna crash. But once you master it you can start showing off.I hope I’ve helped a bit. Stay home and work yourself up to making “appearances” I was on Lexapro and it helped with my social anxiety. Just changed meds and the anxiety is back. I wish there were and I wish I could tell you… sorry.
I go on the internet a lot, and I try being open with a lot of people online to help deal with not being open a lot to people in real life.
Find some place to write, to be as open as you possibley can to just yourself.
its caused by the conflict of image you want to give outside and real yourself. try to put your personality honestly without image when you enter a society. i think you ll get more confident and less anxious.
