Can panic attacks get worse, even if you’ve had them for a while. How do you know if it’s just panic attacks..at the time I mean..Like when I’m having them cause there so scary and I always think something really bad will happen, cause i’m so out of breath, and it’s very scary. How can I be sure at the time that it’s just panic attacks..how can I resure myself

sweetie,i’m 29,and i’ve had panic attacks since i was 14. the most important thing to figuring out how to calm urself is to find out if you have “triggers”. what situations are you in which you most often have your panic attacks? are you claustrophobic(that’s one of my triggers)? do you not like heights?etc. one of the best things you can do,what helps me, is to breathe in slowly through your nose and out through your mouth until you feel ur heart rate get back to normal. visualise something that is relaxing to you. close ur eyes and think of that place, situation, etc, that calms you. i’d advise that if these continue, and yes, they can get worse(some ppl only have one, some have them recurring throughout their lives), is to seek out a mental health counselor that can get you into talk therapy and possibly medication(i’m on Welbutrin and haven’t had an attack in over a yr). you can reassure yourself by realizing(and i know from personal experience that it doesn’t seem this way at the time, i am in no way trying to be condesending) that noone’s ever died from a panic attack, and realizing that that’s what it is. it’s a way of grounding yourself in the moment, and getting yourself back under control. my sincerest hope and wishes for a happier future for you. be well!!
