Panic Disorder

Panic Disorder This disorder is marked by the presence of repeated panic attacks: sudden feelings of terror that appear with physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat, sweating, palpitations, shortness of breath as if suffocating, dizzy or light-headedness, numbness or tingling in the extremities, nausea, and visual distortions. During these attacks sufferers often fear they will have a heart attack, faint, lose control, go crazy, or even die. The attacks begin to subside within 10 minutes but anxiety usually persists longer. Some of the attacks appear “out of the blue” which leads to a generalized fear of more attacks, but some situations may reliably trigger the attacks. Over time, people often begin to avoid the situations where they have experienced previous attacks. This can develop into Agoraphobia, an avoidance of situations from which escape may be difficult. As this disorder grows it can become severely disabling often limiting people’s abilities to travel or even leave their homes. The good news is that panic disorder is highly treatable. With medications, cognitive behavioral therapy, or both, the sufferer is soon on the way to recovery. Remember you are never alone.

@MitchGeee thanks 4 sharing i kno its horrible…and clearing ur mind is a very hard thing 2 do lik u mentioned.

@barbieimhot When I have one, all I can think about is the panic attacks!! It makes them soooo much worse. what you ideally want to do is just clear your mind of thought of anything negative. easier said than done when you feel like your going to die for sure

I HAD A PANIC ATTACK THAT FELT LIKE I WAS FALLING FROM A HIGH PLACE OR THE ADRENALINE SURGE YOU GET WHEN YOU ALMOST FALL . IT LASTED ABOUT 20 MIN. IT FELT LIKE 2 HOURS. ITS LIKE GETTING PUNISHED BY THE GODS. IT REALLY SUKS.

OMG, Im right there with you. Im 39 , had my 1st panic attack 3 nights ago lasted for 4 hours, I thought I was going to die for sure. I had my wife drive me the the E-room , I was shocked to find out it was a panic attack. It had just come out of nowhere. With all the same feelings and thoughts. Ive had one every day since then to a lesser degree. it seems fear of having another one triggers it. God i hope it goes away. This is no way to live. I feel for everyone who has to go thru this .

I have panic attacks but they rarely happen.
Some of the worst are when I either stand fully erect and unable to move with all my muscles tensed up or curled into a ball praying for my life. They don’t last any longer than 10 minutes, but they do involve most of the symptoms such as, sweaty palms, uncontrolled sometimes disturbing paranoid thoughts such as impending death from a stroke or heart failure, painful hightened visual and auditory sensations, tingling in the extermities, some confusio

Hey dude… I’m on 40 mg of fluoxetine because I have severe panic attacks. My symptoms are usually:

    -Tingling in arms / legs
    -Shortness of breath
    - Clamminess

    The most frightening ones are:
-Confusion (can’t remember which way I was coming / going)
    -Dizziness
    -Disorientation
    -Fatigue

Of course, there is always the constant worry that I am going to drop dead of an aneurism, stroke or heart attack… and I am only 22.

Everytime I have them I feel like i’m falling really fast. Anyone have this too?

@kacita those physical stuff suck!!!!!! the feelings u can control, but the physical stuff is almost unbearable. but the truth is…its all sort of mental… the mind triggers the body to react. the longer you work at managing it, the better it gets and the less frequent it happens. wishing you the best.

I only get panic attacks when I have to present shit infront of the class. I remember when I was like in grade 7 I was presenting this thing infront of the whole class and my hands were shaking I could barely breathe and I was tearing up, my heart was beating so fast like a machine gun. Then I ran out of the class and puked in the hall :(
