What makes some “performance enhancing-substances” more acceptable than others?
Hi guys. So I’m writing a research paper on performance enhancing substances for my college class. And I would like to take a poll/questionaire as a part of my research on the “gray areas” of drug use in sports. Your input is much appreciated!
-What do you think about “Beta Blockers” being used by musicians during competitive performances? (beta blockers eliminate excitement, nervousness, and anxiety)
-The use of human growth hormones in athletes. And since growth hormone is produced by the body naturally, makes it undetectable.
-Increasing white blood cell count by; Sleeping in a hypobaric chamber(altitude chamber) VS Training at high altitude VS Taking out your blood, and putting it back in before a competition(transfusion).
If you guys have any other thoughts, I would love to hear them. Thanks again!
acceptability seems to be determined by the media and the politicians, not by any scientific conclusions.

a lot o the substances for which athletes are tested have nothing to do with their performance, just what the media and the politicians want
