What do most health professionals agree upon as far as specific panic attack causes? One physical factor that does seem to contribute to the onset of a panic attack is low blood sugar. Some researchers also theorize that life changing events or generally stressful periods can cause panic attacks. Other studies have shown that a significant number of people with panic disorder have experienced traumatic childhood events such as the death of a parent. Further research even suggests that panic attack causes are often not environmental but genetic although this is still debatable
