    Active is better for benefits.

If you go guard you are part time.

I never got over my fear of heights at the confidence course I made it only becasue my DI’s were yelling so much I wanted to get away from them.

The new GI Bill can be transfer to family.

You would have to talk to a recruiter bonuses change. It also depends on your MOS and lenght of contract.

Best bet would be to sit down and talk to a recruiter. This site can help

Active duty is better money wise especially if you are married.. you also get money for housing.. And if you get shipped to somewhere that they feel is safe to you and your family they can come with you.. thats only if you want them to and it is all paid for.. Also my recruiter told me he was terrified of heights until his basic training– you get so much confidence after basic training. I am joining the army and I am a mother– But I am joining reserves because I am having a hard time getting there father to marry me– he just won’t commit (idiot). So I am getting an ok pay but for you and your family Active duty is MUCH better– I am also going for MP. I know you probably feel bad leaving your wife with a child for that period of time– but look at it this way- if this is what you want it is better to do it now when they really wont remember than to do it later when they will.

I would suggest MP. Get your G I bill then become a police officer. You get the military experience and a trait to carry you to your next career option. After that things will fall into place. The Army will back you up when needed. Good Luck

I was in a similar situation when I joined and had a 6 month old son. I am active so obviously I am biased. Your family will most likely have to pack and move with you at some point, but you always have a steady paycheck, housing, medical, dental, etc.

You may not get over your fear, but you will go down a rappelling tower and go through several confidence courses. I had to be pushed off the tower in order to go down it. In other words, there’s no getting out of it. Its a requirement for graduating basic training.

The education benefits are good, but that doesn’t mean you will always have the time. Mission comes first, no matter if you have a final exam. Your wife will have education benefits – they are better if you are stationed overseas. In Germany, for example, you will have more programs to pay for spouse education. Medical – its really hit or miss. If you’re stationed somewhere with an understaffed clinic, it will show. But recently, I’ve seen great improvements in making referrals to civilian doctors (100% paid by Tricare).

Of those three MOS’s, I personally would choose intelligence. The actual job is easy yet very important. Communications is a nightmare. Trust me on that. MP is not what its cracked up to be. I have yet to meet an MP who enjoys being an MP. On the other hand, intelligence guys love their jobs, but the military is always in need of them. The civilian job market offers such great pay for military intelligence guys. However, you mention your ASVAB score of 80. Your GT score will need to be around 110 (if I recall correctly) for you to qualify for MI.
