Pregnancy Anxiety And Depression

is there any medication at all that you can take for depression/anxiety/panic attacks in pregnancy?

Before I got pregnant, I suffered from depression, I never got any treatment because I was able to cope with it without medication. I am now 21 weeks pregnant and about 2 weeks ago I had mild depression. I was pissed off with my hair, skin etc…9 nights ago I woke up with an awful panic attack and have had them since both day and night – they are horrific. I can’t sleep – am terrified of waking up with a panic attack, I can’t eat, I hate doing things I loved such as reading, having a bath. I have had 2 acupuncture sessions but they are not really working and am trying hypnotherapy tomorrow . Is there anything else at all that I can take for this that will not cause harm to baby – please help, v. distressed!

I do have a solution for you but it doesn’t involve medication. The feelings you’re experiencing are completely normal. Take some comfort in that.

However, as normal as they may be during pregnancy, you obviously would rather feel better.

Also, you’ll need to learn how to control your thoughts to change your mood. This isn’t some weird voodoo trick. It’s a mental exercise called “Consecutive Thought Control”. Be patient with yourself. Learn how to control your reactions to the stress you feel. Remember…it’s all in your head. The world is still a wonderful place.
