Do any of you take prozac for a generalized anxiety disorder? I used to take it and thought it was a good tool to help me combat some things, but that was a long time ago. I have a mild case of o.c.d. and some social anxiety. High levels of stress make all of these worse. I am thinking about starting up the counceling again and possibly taking prozac again. Does the prozac help with any of the above listed? Do you like it and would you recommend it? Serious answers only and thank you!

You said it yourself that you liked it. Go back to it. What do you have to lose?
I’ve worked with people who have taken Prozac and some that still do.. Take it only with a doctors supervision
I used to take prozac for anxiety and depression and it was helpful for both. I’d say go for it.
I would suggest going to counseling and letting your therapist know that Prozac worked for you in the past for some of your issues. Let them know the current problems you are having and find out if it would be the best prescription for you. Mental health doctors know better than the average Joe which medicine could benefit you the best as different meds work differently for different people. I personally use Effexor for my GAD and depression and it works better than just being on the Zoloft I was on (which is similar in nature to Prozac), but like I said, depends on the person, the issues, and what will work best for you. Good luck and hope this helps!
Hello, I too have anxiety. I’m on prozac & also do counceling. Pozac, in my opinon helps alot. Also if you have panic attacks, its good to go on pills that you take when your having them and it calms you down right away. Ask your psyhc about it.
I have taken that and others and they are not worth the side effects..work it out naturally
You sound very similar to me. I just saw a psychiatrist who started me on Prozac for GAD with some obsessive symptoms. He prefers Prozac to other SSRIs because in his experience that works best for OCD-like symptoms. He said there’s evidence that obsessive symptoms often require higher doses of SSRIs than other disorders like depression. He is highly qualified and seemed pretty confident that this will help my symptoms. He also thought cognitive-behavioral therapy can help, especially if you’ve given the meds enough time to kick in first (at least a few weeks). I can let you know how it turns out for me. Good luck.
