Separation Anxiety Disorder In Adults

21 Year Old With Separation Anxiety Disorder?
I often suffer from this every once in a while, but never got a name of what it is. Usually when I’m with a friend or a group of friends and then when I have to leave or go home or they leave me I get really worried, like I get paranoid that they’re going to get hurt or die or I’m not going to see them again. I start to panic real bad, end up calling them and then get so much more panic if they don’t answer their phone.
This started out when I was a small child, I remember my mother giving me a bath, then she left for like 1-2 mins to check laundry, I ended up screaming and darting out of the bathtub, because I thought I wouldn’t see my mother again. This rarely happens now, since I’m 21.
Could I be experiencing separation anxiety and is it more prevalent in adults just as for babies? How do I deal with it?
Profound or unreasonable fear of real or imagined abandonment is the hallmark symptom of borderline personality disorder. You may want to explore that as a possible explanation for the concerns you described. Dependent personality disorder is another viable possibility.
Best of luck to you,
