Separation Anxiety Dogs Cure
Has anyone been able to cure separation anxiety in their dog?

My puppy (Weimaraner) is 7 months old and has terrible anxiety separation. He howls, drools and cuts his paws etc., trying to get out. We have got him a crate which he will go in when we are there but if we go in to another room he comes chasing after us.
If we go out, he goes crazy in the crate. I have to tie him in the crate with his lead to restrict any damage he might do to himself.

He is never left for longer than 2 hours in the day.

We wonder if we should get another dog so they could be company for each other.

If anyone has managed to cure their dog of separation anxiety then please let me know how!!!

I would actually not get another dog just yet. This will create more work for you AND it doesn’t guarantee a transformation. If you want to see, you can ask a friend if you can borrow their dog for a few days and try it.

I have a dog who used to suffer separation anxiety (she was able to bend a 6 inch hole in her metal crate and somehow forced her way out of it…and she’s only slightly smaller than a Golden Retriever) and still tends to have trouble from time to time, but she is mostly better. Believe me, I KNOW how frustrating and sad this situation is.

I bought a book on Amazon called “I’ll Be Home Soon!” by Patricia McConnell. It was cheap, a quick read and an INVALUABLE tool in working with my girl. In my mind, Patricia McConnell is THE trainer to go to for dogs with anxiety issues. Anyway, this book is all about separation anxiety and ways to overcome it. If you’re willing to be patient, I think you’ll find it really great.

Email me if you have any other questions or concerns!
