I have severe social anxiety/phobia. Ive been on some medication before, and decided to get off of it due to various reasons. Is there anything else that would help me overcome my social phobia ?

face your fears. maybe start with a pen pal, and then move up to saying hi to someone. if you want to e-mail me for practice, i would totally not mind at all. in fact, i need to practice this myself. :)

Yes many things. Speaking purely from my own experiences, medication is only helpful if symptoms of depression become severe and life threatening.

I have social anxiety and was on medication for many years. I feel like they are lost years now, I just didn’t really care about anything – didn’t feel good or bad. I’m now off medication and hope to never go back on it unless I become very ill.

Things I try to do are look for ways of tackling issues I have which may be causing the anxiety rather than trying to suppress it. I’ve also tried to actually like things about myself I hated previoulsy.

The big thing that helps many people is CBT – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I’ve never had it but may one day if I can afford it or get time. You can also read books like the one in the link below which introduce you to the principles of CBT – Changing habits of negative thinking.

    Good luck.
