Therapist Anxiety

Seeing a therapist for the first time tomorrow.. nervous..anxiety disorder? helpp please?
i talked to my parents about my anxiety and panic attacks and stuff.. so i’m seeing a therapist tomorrow. i’m so nervous.. i’m actually worried that i’ll cry. is that normal? ahh. idk what to do. i need to go because my anxiety has gotten worse but i’m soo nervous!!!!! any advice? <3thanks
First of all, way to go! Most teenagers will not talk to their parents about their issues, and as a result they go a long time without getting the help they need. It shows that you are a very strong person, since you were able to open up to your parents and get them to set you up with a therapist.
It’s totally normal to be scared about seeing a therapist for the first time, especially if you’re going for an anxiety disorder. Having an anxiety disorder makes you more prone to being nervous about new things anyway, and everyone is nervous when they see a therapist for the first time, so it would make you even MORE nervous than the average, non-anxious person. What you’re feeling is totally normal.
Don’t worry about crying, you probably won’t but if you do, so what? The therapist is there for you to cry to, to talk to, to share your feelings with. They see people cry on a daily basis, literally. You crying is not going to be anything new to them, and they definitely aren’t going to think you’re “weird” or anything like that because you cried. If you’re scared, upset, anxious, etc. then crying would not be out of the ordinary at all. They have lots of tissues in the office, it’s almost expected.
My best advice would be for you to just try to relax (I know, easier said than done) and remember that this person is here to help you. They’ve seen it all, so there’s nothing you can do that is going to weird them out or make them think less of you. They aren’t going to judge you, make fun of you, think badly of you, etc. for anything you say or do. They are just there to help.
Good luck!
