Toddler Anxiety Attacks
What should be done if my grandma’s glucose is too high when she doesn’t eat?

My grandma suffers from axiety, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. She always says that she’s not feeling good. We know most of the time it’s because of anxiety and it doesn’t help when she doesn’t eat. She eats as little as a toddler does. When she’s having an axiety attack, her glucose jumps up to 300+ and that’s without eating. Am I suppose to make her eat something? I’m a little confused, I would think making her eat something would make her glucose go up even more, wouldn’t it?

Give her a low GI food like meat, eggs, cheese, etc.

If she’s at 300+ it is a good idea to give a small corrective dose of insulin- keyword SMALL. Then test to make sure she did not go too low.

Keep monitoring, and if things do go too low, use glucose tablets or gels to raise her sugar. If she won’t eat and is in a state of low blood sugar, you may need to administer a glucagon shot.
